Let the School Year Begin!

Caitlin and Will started back to school on Monday, junior year and sophomore year respectively. So far, so good. They both seem to be happy with their classes, although, that is always subject to change. Will was booted from driving class because he isn't turning 16 this semester. Cruel thing to do to a kid who so deserved the class. He was told he could take it over the summer. Someone needs to tell me where my money went though!!!

Aaron and Evan had a slight reprieve until Wednesday before they began seventh and sixth grades. They had friends over, went swimming and were ready to go. Evan was a bit nervous Tuesday night but when he walked through the door Wednesday afternoon, he declared it "the best day ever!" I had no worries he would adjust, but so glad it happened so quickly!

Here's to a great 179 more school days!

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there that make a difference in the life of a child!
David was lucky enough to be treated to a little ice cream this afternoon compliments of Evan before they played a little catch.
David is back in Dallas for a few days then home to finish up the last two days of his training. Must be doing something right because they are turning him loose four weeks ahead of schedule. Yay for us! He received his official assignment this week and we are staying here in NW IL. Another yay for us moment...I can't even begin to imagine packing this place up!

Caitlin went with her team to the Glen Ellyn Invitational. The Aces took third place. Great job, Aces! Caitlin is looking forward to having her surgery and getting on the road to recovery. Please lift prayers that all goes well on Tuesday.

And they win again!

Although it's hard to tell, that's Aaron on first and Evan on second, ready to score. They won last night 15-5 in four and a half innings. The Lake in the Hills Cubs are cruising right along with a present record of 11-2. Coach treated them to ice cream last night too. Happy Kids!

End of the School Year is Upon Us

Wednesday is the last day of the school year. What an incredible year. We watched in awe as the kids balanced school, fantastic grades, sports, school activities, CCD and service projects. Caitlin learned to drive and was honored with being a varsity softball captain. Caitlin and Will received their Sacrament of Confirmation in April. Will turned is grades around in a major way and learned a new sport, karate. Aaron served as historian for Rachel's challenge and as a rep on Student Council. He was also inducted into National Junior Honor Society. Evan had great fun in choir and in the school play. His hard work was rewarded with the Outstanding Academic Presidential Award. My heart is full of pride. Can't wait to see what the next adventure brings to these deserving kids!

Busy Weekend

Congratulations to Aaron! He found out Friday that he was accepted into National Junior Honor Society! He was inducted based on his academics and service to the school and community!

Aaron also had a triathlon on Saturday. He completed a 125 meter swim, five mile bike course and one mile run. While it wasn't his best time, he had fun!

We spent a lot of the weekend working concessions for Caitlin's travel team. We hosted a 10u, 12u and 14u tournament. Pretty neat to watch the little girls and see just how far our 18u girls have come. Looking forward to starting with the Aces 18u next weekend. Caitlin will be going to therapy again tomorrow and hoping to get a firmer date of when she can return to the field.

Aaron and Evan had the weekend off of baseball. They start back on Wednesday. They lost their fist game last week rendering them 7-1. They are anxious to get back after it and prove that it was a fluke!

Kids have a little school left. Here's to a great summer!

Growing Vertical

This year we thought we'd try something a little different. We're attempting a vertical garden. The idea is to train the zucchini, squash and cucumbers up the nylon trellis. If it works we might try it with tomatoes next year. It should help us use our space a little more wisely and provide more sun since the plant growth won't be shading the produce. Here's to hoping!
